Air source heat pumps (ASHP) are systems which transfers heat from outside of a building to inside, or reverse to transfer heat from inside to outside. ASHP systems use a refrigerant system involving a compressor and a condenser to absorb heat from the air and release this to a room, to a hot water storage tank or to both.

Air source heat pumps (Air to Water) look similar to air-conditioning units and are less disruptive to install than ground source heat pumps, as they do not require any excavation works to lay heatsink coils. One major advantage of air source heat pumps is that they offer 30 to 50% reduction in CO2 emissions compaired to conventional gas boilers.

Air to Air heat pumps can be reversed to give cooling in the summer months and heating in the cooler months. Air to Air heat pumps consist of an indoor and an outdoor unit connected with copper pipes and electrical cable. It should be noted that the indoor unit will require a drain to be installed to remove the condensate water that is produced when the indoor unit is in cooling mode.

To ensure that the correct system is selected a full site survey should be conducted to ensure that the system is going to match the building and your requirements.
